President & Chief Executive Officer, Ventus Medical
Mr. Nugent is currently President and Chief Executive Officer of Ventus Medical, an early stage medical device company and Chairman of Spectragenics, the developer and manufacturer of light-based aesthetic devices for use by consumers in the home.
From 2004 to 2006, he worked closely with several private equity firms and completed the purchase of Insight Pharmaceuticals, an OTC pharmaceutical company where he served as President and CEO.
From 1999 to 2002, he was President and Chief Executive Officer of Revlon, where he led the successful first stage turnaround of the global cosmetics, skin/hair care and fragrance marketer. During that period, Revlon’s real EBITDA doubled while driving the troubled brands’ (primarily Revlon and Almay) growth with the strongest flow of new products in years.
Prior to his years with Revlon, Mr. Nugent was Worldwide President and CEO of Neutrogena from the time of its acquisition by Johnson & Johnson. During that time (1994-1999), the global business quadrupled in size while remaining a completely independent operating company. Neutrogena was transformed from a strong focused brand best known for it’s glycerin bar soap to one of the world’s largest and most innovative, professionally recommended personal care companies.
Leading up to his Neutrogena responsibility, Mr. Nugent spent 20 years in a wide range of senior positions within Johnson & Johnson. These included management roles in Finance, Marketing, Operations, Research & Development, General Management and Corporate Staff, reporting to the Chairman/CEO. His responsibilities involved all three business segments of Consumer, Medical Devices and Pharmaceuticals and included the formation of J&J Health Management, a services based standalone company targeting healthcare providers.
Mr. Nugent served in the US Army and was stationed at the Pentagon as an Operations Research/Intelligence officer. He has a BS degree in Mathematics from St. Joseph’s College and an MBA in Marketing and Finance from Loyola University in Chicago. He is a past Board member of CHPA (Consumer Healthcare Products Association), CTFA (Cosmetic, Toiletries and Fragrance Association), The Child Welfare League of America (CWLA) and is currently active with several other entrepreneurial early stage companies.
